The sexual dimorphism is especially noted by duller colors in the females on the level of the red of the head and the chest. The female moreover in general has a size and a smaller head and often has a tape under wing white.

In our areas, it spends very well the winter outside in an aviary because it is resistant and can have a long lifespan. The coupling at this type of bird is advised for some two year old birds of age. With this age the female lays on average 6, 7 even 8 eggs that it broods approximately during 21 days. After this incubation period three weeks. The young brds leave the nest around the 35th day. The latter resemble then especially the female while being clearer. They are marked of green to the back of their head and their nape of the neck and reach the adult size around 18 months.
