Hunchback or curly posture canaries
Uneven and curly canaries : most fragile of the canaries of posture.

The Gibber Italicus
Gibber Italicus : born as its name indicates it in Italy (Dutch descent). With the middle of the twentieth century (1951). It is the subject of criticisms and of multiple questions because one wonders whether its form does not harm the health of the birds. Of big size (between 14 and 15 cms). It is one race of strangest one for the canaries, it has habit to cause large surprise of the public at the time of the expositions. The breeders obtain in the extreme cases of the canaries in the form from ‘ 7 ‘ or ‘ 1 ‘. With very long frayed legs and thus of this fact fragile. The small oval head of Gibber Italicus makes think of that of a snake. It is pressed on a neck gracile forming a right angle with the thin and tapering body of the animal.

The Belgian Hunchback posture canary
We find thus :
uneven Belgian (17 cms) : appeared in XVII-XVIIIth century in Belgium. It holds an arched posture but drawn up . It resembles to the Dutch canary of the south but without curlings. By profile its posture of work should evoke the figure ‘1’. But it is difficult to obtain and still to keep more.The posture in form from ‘ 7 ‘. Is already enough satisfactory for the experts. Its plumage must be smoothest possible and adhere perfectly to the body of the bird. With the exception of the artificial colours, all the colours are allowed at the time of the contest.

The Japanese Hoso canary
Japanese Hoso (11 to 12 cms): rare variety to date, it is the shape of Fancy Scotch tape of small size.

The Scotch Fancy Canary
Canary Scotch Fancy : almost in the process of disappearance, of the professional breeders have tried for a few years to recreate the race and they obtain rather satisfactory results. Of big size (at least 17 cms), it forms part of the canaries selected on their maintenance. Very popular during theXIXth century in its native Scotland, it had lost a little its success. It meet from now on a revival and it is thus rather easy to get beautiful specimens. Its determining characteristic in the contests it is that it must move while jumping continuously from one perch to another.

The Parisian Curly Canary
Curly canaries : the curly Parisian one: of big size (between 20 and 22 cms approximately), it is largest of the curly canaries, not very gifted for the flight, difficult to make reproduce because of its big size, it is better to leave the care of the breeding of this last to experienced breeders:

The Paduan
Curly Padouan : appeared in the Fifties in Italy, it is also of big size (between 18 and 19 cms approximately), it is a canary with the very right port and the characteristic curlings. Its body forms an angle close to 65° compared to the horizontal one. The difference with the curly one of color it is that it has a huppe (essential for the reproduction).

The South Dutch canary
The curly of the north (17 – 18 cms) : the first curly canaries were baptized ” trumpets ” because of the similarity of their curly shoulder pads with those of the trumpets of the king. As its curling resembled the traditional Dutch cap much, it was named at its origin the “Dutch of North “.

The South Dutch canary
The Dutch of the south (16-17 cms) : it resembles enormously Curly of North, only its port in form of seven and its crop differentiates it. It owes its extreme elegance with the abundance of its curlings, its leaning neck and its legs which ittightens with an affected grace when it puts in posture work in seven form.
and Fiorino are the most current races.
Gloster canaries
Nonuneven canaries and with smooth plumage : Gloster Corona : of small size (11.5-12 cms), sharpand with a huppe on the head which resembles a wig. One couples itwith Gloster Consort (deprived of huppe):

Canaries Crest, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Norwich or Lizard
Very great Crest (16-17 cms) which is equipped with a huppe and which one couples with Crest-bred which him is deprived by it. And finally the giant Lancashire Coppy who measures from 22 to 23 cms and whom one couples with Lancashire Plainhead . Crested German is of average size. The majority of the canaries of posture to feathers smooth are English races like Yorkshire, Norwich . The plumage of Lizard is particular and can be compared with that of the falcon or with the skin of the lizard (from where its name). It is the oldest race which one knows, and whose features remained immutable since centuries. There exists two colors: however (or gilded) and silver.

Canaries of posture exist about in all the colours known so far.
